For whatever reason?

For whatever reason do we allow ourselves to be overcome, overrun and overwrought by emotions we might, in others, call childish or foolish? What causes rational adults to ignore prudence and allow creativity or productivity to falter in the face of entirely surmountable odds?

I don’t know the insider details of what it was that killed Kiddieland, but I wonder if those details were worth it. The world, evidently, is in need of another strip mall. Each side of the family, whose split eventually ended in the park’s closing, may have their reasons to mortgage their role in owning/running a nursery of fond childhood memories, but I wonder if those reasons will matter in another decade?

It was bittersweet heading out there to take a few photos this summer – but we felt it was necessary. It was indeed sad to see so many older folks leaving the parking lot in a long, melancholy line, snapping a few flash photographs of the iconic sign for posterity’s sake.

November 30, 2009 - 2:31 pm Vickie Perkins - This is an extraordinary capture of an iconic sign. What a glorious view!

April 27, 2010 - 10:17 am Dave Wittekind - What a cool picture! The sign's still there, but not for long I'm afraid. A Costco is supposed to open there in Fall 2010.
