Fried Chicken and frozen waterfalls

… what could be better? Here’s a pic of the Dining Room inside the Starved Rock Lodge. Much of the park’s infrastructure was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps – a public works project from the Great Depression. The Lodge itself is built of chinked logs and has a great rustic feel. I especially liked the doorway to the dining room, with the warm fire burning in the distance. I chatted with a nice guy a few years my senior from Utica as I snapped this shot, he used to do a lot of film photography for the local paper. I tried to convince him that digital is king …

January 13, 2010 - 8:38 am Dominique - This very much reminds me of Keweenaw Mountain Lodge near Copper Harbor, MI-a CWA/WPA project I blogged about a while back http://www.midwestguest.com/2009/08/keweenaw-mountain-lodge-legacy-of-hope-in-hard-times.html My photos are no where near as stunning as yours, but I liked the story of building hope in hard times. I've heard about Starved Rock, and this photo really makes me want to check the park out one of these days!
