Rite of Spring

Here’s another example of “lay down in the goose poop/ice mixture as low as you can get and stick your camera somewhere new to get a cool shot.”

The sun burning on through the glaciated guano couldn’t help but remind me we are rocketing towards springtime at a meteoric pace. Before you or I know it well be bitching about the heat and the humidity. Enjoy the 13 days of spring when they come my friends as they are almost as delightful as Chicago’s 10 days of fall!

I got myself booted from the Powell Library at UCLA yesterday because my camera rig looked too professional. Maybe I should have told the librarian that despite my pro equipment I’m just a newbie out there having fun. She said “most people just come in, take a picture and leave,” then gave me the so-why-do-you-need-a-tripod-and-why-haven’t-you-already-left look. I had a few choice words I could have shared, but none of them would have allowed me to get that last 30-second exposure in! Oh well I got two frames I rather liked – that’ll have to do!

March 10, 2010 - 9:53 am Hector Garza - I hate the "your camera looks too professional" speech. If my humble Digital Rebel is too professional I wonder what would they think if they saw me carrying an 1Ds MIII... Perhaps they would think that camera is the second coming.

March 10, 2010 - 12:24 pm Michael Tuuk - Very cool capture! The ice portrays the cold and the warm colors give you that "hope of spring" feeling. At least you have *some* spring and fall. My son says that Austin has 4 seasons -- almost summer, summer, still summer, and Christmas. True enough in some years.
